Ann Medd 1742 by The Scarlet Letter

A most unusual sampler! It is, in effect, four separate samplers in one massive package: the upper third with alphabets, a scene of Adam and Even under the Tree of life, a whimsey of vigorously blooming stylized flower trees, and a very fashionably attired couple with their pet dog, squirrel and deer. The lower third is an enigmatic amalgamation of myth and idealism, with the borders completing tablets of moralistic verse, each verse beginning with a consecutive letter of the alphabet. The bottom scene - a fisherman hooking a large fish from a stream while a sheperdess tends her flock of sheep. Stitch the parts or stitch the whole!

Fabric: on 35 count, cut approximately 48 x 22 for a 2" border, more for a wider border.
